What to Do with That Random Vegetable in Your CSA Box and “Bounty from the Box” Cookbook Giveaway

Have you ever found an intriguing piece of produce and bought it, only to get home and wonder, “Now what do I do with this?”

Well, I have found the resource you have been looking for! I’m really excited to share that three of my recipes from SpiceboxTravels.com have been published in a hot-off-the-press cookbook, Bounty from the Box: The CSA Farm Cookbook (Twisted Carrot Publishing), authored by Mi Ae Lipe.  I was honored when Mi Ae contacted me a few years ago to ask for permission to share my recipes for Brassica Fried Rice, Indonesian Avocado and Chocolate Shake,  and Spicy Balinese Green Apple Salad in her cookbook, which contains more than 350 recipes.  Mi Ae and I share a love of seasonal, plant-based eating and an interest in food systems.  Bounty from the Box is a comprehensive guide to selection and preparation of pretty much every fruit, vegetable and herb under the sun, and deliciously answers the question: What is this fruit/vegetable and what do I do with it? While Mi Ae’s primary goal is to promote CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture), this book will be handy whether you subscribe to a CSA, like to explore farmers markets, or primarily buy your produce from the grocery store.  All of the recipes feature produce; many are vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free.  The book is organized by crop, arranged seasonally, and gives information on nutrition, selection, storage, cleaning, cooking techniques, and serving suggestions for each.  There are also features on CSAs around the country, and essays on topics ranging from farming and food politics to cooking and nutrition.

  1. Great giveaway and I follow you on all of the social media stuff etc.. (and food52) I never really got anything I wasn’t familiar with but once I got so much lettuce I didn’t know what to do with it, I had to give it away or it would go bad.

  2. Last week I got dandelion greens and had no idea what to do with them. I ended up using them in a smoothie with a banana, frozen berries, milk and yogurt.
