San Francisco’s local public radio/television station, KQED, has a wonderful joint food blog called Bay Area Bites.  With the vibrant and diverse food scene here, it is no wonder that we also have a bumper crop of talented food bloggers who contribute to the site.  A recent post piqued my interest: a review of 5 quarterly literary journals featuring food writing.  I am definitely planning to check these out (and one day hopefully contribute).  The time has come for the elevation of the kind of food writing I enjoy reading and writing: the kind that explores food and foodways as a tool to understanding the human condition.  It’s food literature.
